You want proofing? We got proofing
Take a look at this PDF (734 K). It’s a scan of four actual pages used in proofing Building Accessible Websites.
- Moveable Type added several sets of proofer’s marks:
- Red pen
- Actual error (not many of those!)
- Green pen
- Suggestions
- Green highlighter
- Keeps errors like widows and orphans
- Pink highlighter
- Ligature error
- Marc corrected ligature errors and a few other items, marking them in pencil.
- I hacked through the jungle with a machete, and the gigantic blue and green printing on pages shows just what happens when you let a bull roam through a china shop, even if he might have an AmEx black card in the manpurse hanging from his neck. Yellow highlighter shows where I ticked off each error after it was entered separately into HTML and Quark. (You try that sometime!)
Inaccessibility warning
The PDF isn’t the accessible kind. Apart from ineffectual text equivalents for each page image, there is no way to make it thus. Further, as a Macintosh user, I cannot add alternate texts using Adobe accessibility tools; all the relevant ones run on Windows only.
